Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-13) told her constituents Tuesday night that Democratic lawmakers are looking for ways to arrest White House officials who don’t comply with congressional subpoenas.
The comments were made during a “Congress, Coffee, and Conversation” event in Detroit, according to The New York Post. Tlaib was responding to an audience member who said there are “federal marshals” who will “hunt” down White House officials who ignore a subpoena.
“Do you know this is really unprecedented? This is the first time we’ve ever had a situation like this,” Tlaib replied. “So they’re trying to figure out—no joke—they’re trying to figure out well is it the DC police that goes and gets them? Where do we hold them?”

“They’re trying to be like well where are we going to put them?” she continued. “I’m like you all. I ask the same questions. Well, what happens when they don’t comply? The fact of the matter is we held Barr and Secretary Ross from commerce in contempt. Well, what happens?”
“Everybody’s looking at each other like we haven’t ever had this happen before. So I just want you to know I will relay your message,” she concluded, before suggesting that officials who ignore subpoenas could be held in Detroit.
“I will tell them they can hold all those people right here in Detroit,” she said. “We’ll take care of them and make sure they show up to the committee hearings.”
Michael Joyce, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, said “threatening to send White House officials to jail in Detroit is a new low for Tlaib.”
“It’s no secret that Rashida Tlaib has been driving the impeachment push from day one, but calling for White House officials to be thrown into jail in Detroit crosses the line,” he said. “Considering how often the socialist squad has called President Trump a fascist, they should stop threatening to jail their political opponents, as fascists do.”
